Salt Rising Bread

The Conlon family's been loving this bread for more than 60 years. My grandkids call it "stinky-feet bread" because when the loaves are baking, or you're toasting slices, it smells like stinky feet.  The flavor, however, has no resemblance to the smell.  Toasted, it's very crunchy on the outside, delicious, moist and chewy on the inside.  A lot of patience is required to craft these loaves, but a successful batch is well worth the effort!
